You might be able to get a custom one peice. Would save some weight.

I have heard Tom Wood's parts are really good, probably cost prohibitive...

I think these are the same guys that if you don't specify a color for your driveshaft they will assume that you want it pink.:-p

 

 

other than that, you can get replacement u-joints from Rockford driveline

I checked into them a year or so ago and they were around $38/ea

RWD? What kind of Subari is RWD? Front wheel drive and 4WD is all that I have ever heard of. You can probably spend more on a custom drive line than the car is worth. Or you can simply go to the local wreckers and get an identical driveline from a 4wd car with less than 160,000 miles, and call it good. Some people squirt lithium grease in a can, on the problem area, in order to get them to the wreckers and back. Most likely, it is the guide bearing in the middle of the driveline, that is going out. They make a lot of noise and get real wobbly when they go bad. Forget about a custom drive line because then you get into clearance issues and support issues that are likely beyond your level of expertise to anticipate.

you would have to cannibalize the front axles and remove the outer DOJ leaving just the splines and re install to protect and have proper bearing support unless you expect the outer seal to take the weight of the front of the car... It would not roll without an outer axle end installed.

Sounds like a lot of trouble just to get rid of the most important feature of the vehicle, front wheel drive.

Some times, one must do that to keep the vehicle drivable.

 

Done so with a couple of the BRATs due to bad front axle(s), and no moneies to replace them right away.

Pull axles, install outer stubs, pop it in 4WD and drive it to/from work.

 

Really not recomended in heavy wet snow though. Had the back bumper want to do the leading a few times.

Front tires would get into the heavy stuff, rears would break traction, around we go.

 

I'm on the road in the mornings, way before the plow trucks are.

Been the 1st one down the road(s) many a morning.

In all honesty it was VERY easy and 100% worth it. Especially because I only had 4wd before. And 4wd blows lol
