April 21, 201312 yr Have 1987 subaru gl 1.8 4-wheel drive. Grinding clunking sound from right front end area when accelerating and turning right.It quits when i let off on gas.... What could it be?...Need your help!
April 21, 201312 yr check wheel bearings and inspect the cv. +1 make sure to jack the front tires up off the ground when inspecting. Edited April 21, 201312 yr by mikaleda
April 22, 201312 yr Jack up the front of the car. Remove wheel covers. Grab hold of tire and shake sternly. Take pry bar and pry up and down on tire listen for clunking. Inspect axle nut where attached to hub for signs of spinning. Very common to have splines strip. Inspect CV boot carefully if it has thrown the grease out it probably is bad. If the boot is nice and clean though most likely the wheel bearing like posted above. If you have the time and money do both sides.
April 24, 201312 yr Author Any front end work in the last couple months? Yes had right cv axle replaced,ball joint,and cone and spring washers.Still has wheel noise.
