89 XT GL - 4WD actuator hoses unplugged from ?

Featured Replies

They are unplugged and I can't find from where.  Many say they connect behind the drivers strut tower but I can't find anything anywhere under the hood.  I unplugged them during my EJ swap and I'm wondering if they were connected to the motor that I pulled in some way.  But I can't find anywhere to connect them on the motor either.  Any ideas??

The 4wd solenoids on the XT are on the firewall above the bellhousing, very near the wiper motor. the other end goes to the trans below the starter.

... could you post a Photo of the Engine Bay? ...

Maybe you removed certain components along the EA Engine.

Kind regards.

I still can't find anything. The hoses are long enough to reach the battery.

It looks like it is missing. I see a threaded hole where your green relay is that it would mount to on a bracket. May be it got ditched having been mistaken for an emissions part.

Thanks, now I better go look for it.  I can't figure out why I would have unplugged the hoses or removed the solenoids.

Now I remember.  I thought it was smog stuff for the EA82.  Found it in a bucket in the garage.

Those are the solenoids.

There is another section of wiring harness for them though. About 10" long, all taped up, with matching White connectors that plugs between body harness and solenoids. That section of harness contains 2 diodes under all of the tape.

I'm 99% sure that part was not there when I got the car.  4wd did work before the swap.  The two solenoid hoses that connect together with a check valve slightly downstream: where does the bottom end of that hose connect to? If anything...

The hose would connect to a vacuum supply on the intake manifold. You can "tee" into an existing line if need be.

Should be a plastic vacume storage tank on fenderwell vacume to tank then to 4x4 soiliniond used long plastic lines just below the valance one side is 4x4 on one side is 4x4 off the vacume storage tank is important or will drop out of 4x4 under long accerations as engine makes low vacume at full trottle apps

Sorry, I missed your post.  Thank you so much.  I can't find a cannister, so i'll try this. :)

on the intake ps side should be a removabble bung that can install a vacume fitting into the auto kickdown vacume fitting from loyale works good

I'm running an EJ22 manifold and there usually is a second tapped hole for a bung, but this one doesn't have one.  I just teed it into the FPR hose to test it and it is back in 4WD. :)   Is it cool to leave it on there?

Thank you Tom and Ivans!

Ideally, you would want to run vac line to a storage canister, then out to the solenoids. Use a check valve in the line from vac source to canister.

But with that said, I have the solenoid vac supply "Tee'd" in to the vac line to the canister line, before the canister.

Not sure as to the "why" of it, but if I put the solenoid line after the canister, it messes with my heater controls. I'm running an XT6 FT4WD trans in mine, but the controls are identical between it and the Pushbutton 4WD trans.

I try to avoid useing the vacume line for regulator for anything but that is sensitve to changes in vacume ect it sould be direct to fuel reg no tees. Or you get rise in feul pershure when heater or 4x4 is turned on
