Hatchback Speaker Setup

Featured Replies

I'm just curious as to what kind & size speakers everyone is running in their ea81 hatchback. Also, where are you mounting them & pics of modifications you did to get them mounted since there isn't too many places you can mount them .

I have 5 1/4 speakers in the stock 4" hole with no cutting, I just stuffed them in there. But I want more & one of the speakers is due for replacement anyhow. I had the idea of cutting out the 4" hole to fit 6" door speakers but then realized that that cannot happen. I also had the idea of cutting out the door panels like I usually do on my cars, but this is a hatchback, they're getting rare, I have nice door panels etc etc. Plus, even 6" speakers would be almost too large for the door. I could go down an inch but I'm trying to be cheap & work with what I have laying around. Which is 2 pairs of 6" Sonys & a pair of sony 6x9s ....

At WCSS this year I saw Robbie's hatch, ( SubaruGuru ), which he mounted 6x9s in the cubby holes & molded some stuff around it to make it look flush. Which was nice, not sure if I wanna completely delete my cubby holes though ...

So if you drive an ea81 hatchback, please feel free to post up any pics of your stereo/speaker setup .

Here's what I have thus far:

5 1/4 pioneers. 140 ? Watt max. Not very much bump ...

Well, I'm not sure about how big of speakers can be stuffed into the panels.

Fatty magnets and all.

If you're wanting to get buck wild though, you could cut up that rear "cargo floor" in your trunk, put what you want in ...and lay some plexi-glass over it.

:D

I have those same pioneers in the front doors of my gl.

I would also like to know about the cubbies and how big a speaker people have put in there. I see no reason they couldn't fit 6 x 9 but would like to hear from somebody who's done it.

Also what about round versus oval.

Just to add to the conversation, I fit pretty nice pair of polk 4 x 6 in the stock locations in the front.

Anyone got pics of a good mounting job in the rear cubbies?

IMO all the rear cubbies do is get filled with sticky garbage... but they are the perfect spot for 6x9s.

now we ar talking. agreed on cubbies being somewhat useless. Everyone I have ever cleaned out had 86 cents and a popsicle stick stuck to the bottom.

I think I am going to leave the rear seats out of my hatch and turn it into the dog boot anyway. 6 x 9 it is.
