can you switch control a locking rear end in an XT and say put it in an 85 hatch.

if your hatch is a manual, it will have a 3.90 rear.

 

The XT rear ratio will depend on trann and whether its turbo or NA

 

and the $64000 question.. have you found a locking rear diff? as far as I know, there is no such thing (factory ) on a soob

no subarus have locking rear ends. Rxs have 3.70:1 Limited Slip differentials. Maybe you are getting confused with the center diff lock on full-time 4wd transmissions. You could put an RX rear lsd in you car if you take the diff apart and swap the r&p with a 3.90:1 r&p

If you are talking about the LSD diff then yes, all you need to do is if the hatch has an existing 3.90 diff then swap the LSD unit out of the 3.70 diff to the Open carrier in the 3.90.

The locking switch activates the center diff, not the rear. The rear diff with those tranny tends to be a LSD, not a selectable diff.
