EJ25D head gasket compatibility ?

Featured Replies

I'm having trouble sourcing head gaskets for the EJ25D in Aus for less than $300AUD

However I can get a hold of "EJ25 0.55mm Pair 11044 AA641 11044 AA642" for $60. They are Subaru OEM MLS so they say.

Just wondering if these will work on the EJ25D.

As I understand it, the D used 1.3mm thickness gaskets, so these would up compression. But would they cause interference?

Cheers,

Phiz

i'm sure you've seen how far an EJ25 piston protrudes out of the block right?  they're freaks of Subaru nature.

is the 642 gasket a Phase II gasket, i thought it was?  those aren't typically used on EJ25D's and i thought it was because they shouldn't be used, but i'm unsure.

without thick enough headgaskets Phase I pistons can strike heads themselves (not just the valves), so they do need to be a certain thickness in some situations (block/head swaps).

I haven't pulled the engine apart yet. And I haven't pulled one of these 25D's apart before.. I think I've found a place overseas that will post express to me with the correct gasket set. So I think I'll be right.

i'd imagine one of the online places might help you out, some are even members here like Jamie from subaru genuine parts.com?  do they ship internationally?  if you don't get any leads elsewhere i don't mind helping you do that but simpler if you can find a place that will do it.

$300!!!!?????  nuts.

Found an entire engine reseal kit with 1.25mm MLS head gaskets express EMS to me for $160aud. So about $145usd. I'm happy with that. Cheers for the help.

Oh, and for future reference is the DOHC valve cover gaskets all the same for the EJ25 range? As in, do valve cover gaskets from EJ255 and EJ257 fit the EJ25D?

You won't like the answer to that one, not only are the gaskets not the same as the newer ones, subaru used 4 different gaskets throughout the ej25d run just for the valve covers. There is supposed to be a marking on the inside of the cover that tells which one you have, or so I've read. If you have the covers that have 16 valve embossed in them with lines, then you've got a 96 model engine and you can use ej20g or ej20h valve cover gaskets for it, if they are all smooth there are 3 types it could be, with no guarantee that you'll have the same gasket on each side. You can use ej20r or ej20k gaskets for these.

no, the valve cover gaskets and spark plug tube gaskets are all DOHC EJ25D specific. ;

*** there are even two different DOHC valve covers with corresponding different gaskets - like 96-97 and 98-99 here in the US anyway.

Great.. Well fingers crossed. I told the place it was a 9/96 and they said it will work..

Top one is the 97-99, shim on bucket heads similar to the ej20r/k

bottom is the 96 only hla bucket heads similar to the ej20g/h

I found some grafite headgaskets for the 2.5d engine other day Eristic brand I think 100% better sealing than the silly steel ones 0 rad pressure and runs and holds way better. And they were cheaper by 50$ each

I found the hydro engines was better to ask for parts for 95-96 legacy GT ej2.5d. legacy outback just confuses parts guys
