just food for thought

Featured Replies

just looking for some food for thought, im wanting to do a engine/ 5 speed tranny swap into my 1996 legacy L with a EJ22, what would be the best engine to swap in that can be turboed? ive read a couple posts on here saying the EJ25 is the best option to swap in, but just thought i would ask again.

 Thanks.

2.2 if your going to throw on a turbo. It is a very strong engine and can deal with some abuse. Don't know where you saw the 2.5 to be turboed with its weak head gaskets and open decks.

quite a project. Be sure the final drive of the new tranny matches your rear diff - or just get the entire drivetrain and motor and ecu from a WRX.

thanks guys. from what nipper said sounds like i will keep the original engine and find a 5 speed tranny from another Legacy with the same engine.

How many miles on your engine? If it is up in miles you really dont want to turbo it.

its got under 200 000 but im not entirely sure because when i got it the odometer didnt work and then started working again once i started driving the spoob out of it.

Way too many miles to put a turbo on that engine, you will get blowby the first time you step on the gas and spin up the turbo.
