GL won't start after girlfriend added too much oil...

Recommended Posts

If you know that the engine rotates, check the oil pressure. If you have a broken timing belt on the passenger side, the oil pump does not rotate. Zero oil pressure on the gauge and the engine cranks over with little resistance.

Oil pump is driven by DRIVERS side belt. (For LHD)  Same as the disty.

Smart cause you don't want the engine running with the oil pump not spinning......and they can run with no passenger side belt.

This is a broken timing belt.  Can tell by the sound

Could too much oil put extra tension while starting and snapped the belt? New to the Suby so not sure if that's possible or not...but it sounds reasonable ? :)

No.

Well......I don't know you could say for sure.........but i feel like it could.....I feel like i've seen this scenario before.

This may sound too obvious, but it's caught out more than a few: does it have fuel?

I think the original carbs have a sight glass in the float bowl. Our you can pull off the air filter, look down the throat of the carb and pull on the throttle linkage. You should see some fuel getting squirted into the throat of the carb.
