April 12, 201411 yr So I got everything tuned up set advance to 10^ before on my 83 sedan and everything was fine till I actually put a load on ( went up a hill ) I know this isn't a high comp engine so regular unleaded should be fine. Do I need to mess with the weber or did I do something stupid or did I just miss a step that I have completely forgotten? Mike
April 12, 201411 yr Might move it up a few degrees to see if it stops. A few isnt going to hurt anything but might get rid of the ping.
April 12, 201411 yr agree with the above. I found it is the best way to tune your engine. go uphill with a tall gear laboring the engine. keep retarding until the ping goes away. If you change fuel type then you'll need to do it again most likely. When I installed my eA81 with adapter plate I inadvertantly had no timing marks as the flywheel wasnt used. hence this method was used to satisfaction. Edited April 12, 201411 yr by tweety
April 12, 201411 yr keep advancing until ping goes away ?? must be a northern hemisphere thing, coz down under we reduce timing advance in fact my 85 EA82T has a boost retard function in the vac advance cannister and the knock (ping) control module pulls the timing back from 20 to near 10 DBTDC until ping has gone
