Rebuilt Transmission - Reinstalled - Wheels barely spin

Featured Replies

2001 Subaru Outback 2.5 AT

Replaced all bearings and seals in the transmission. Got everything put back in place. Replaced all transmission fluid with Subaru OEM AT Fluid.

Car starts fine and runs though all gears fine but the wheels barely spin.

Something is amiss.

Any ideas?

P.S. My mechanic is a leaving on a plane in 8 hours... So if you have any ideas, don't hesitate to reply.

crushed the oil pump, torque converter seated correctly? Catch your mechanic before he dips on you!

"all bearings and seals" - the automatic transmission was rebuilt?

were the symptoms prior to rebuild the same or something else?

is the AT light flashing 16 times at start up?

"wheels barely turning" - front or rear wheels are turning?

find out if indeed the transmission output shafts are turning slow or only the wheels.  a broken axle could result in the transmission operating fine but the power not fully transferring to the wheel.

Holy crap, "wheels don't spin". We need more info. What was the problem in the first place and how was it diagnosed?  What was found wrong when the unit was split open? Does the trans final drive ratio match the rear diff ratio?  Was the front pump mashed by improper installation, and does the torque convertor match the trans?  Was the convertor replaced? Why was a rebuild chosen over a rebuilt unit and did you do ALL of the work? Were ALL the cooler lines flushed so no debris was pushed in to the fresh trans? Is the fluid full and do you have any pump pressure at all?

Start some dialog and don't be bashful. Some of us eat nuts and bolts for breakfast and don't have much "bedside manor". The best Techs and source of old-school information about Subaru's no doubt is right here.

"Wheels barely spin" is just a little too vague.

Describe this part in a LOT more detail.
