1994 EA82 idle

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 1994 EA82 installed on a VW bus and I have a problem with idle speed, maybe someone could help to find path of the problem.

The idle is too fast, I don't have RPM but I would say around 1200rpm, here is the steps that I have validated

* Butterfly screw is just above the butterfly mechanical contact.

* Idle screw don't have any effect on the idle speed

* Idle switch working

I have performed the timing last week and I was able to adjust the idle by the screw at 750rpm for proper timing with test mode jumpers on.

What else could overide the screw ?

thanks for your input.

Alex

Throttle not closing- "Butterfly screw is just ABOVE the butterfly mechanical contact."

An unmetered air or vacuum leak.

CTS is telling the IAC to fast idle.

A faulty IAC.

A faulty idle switch or associated wiring.

How does it idle w/the IAC disconnected?

Butterfly is just above, If i unscrew more the plate will jam in to the throat.

I have removed the the idle switch and turned on the engine, then turned with a screw driver the switch. Idle pass from around 1200 to 2500 when I turn the switch so i consider the switch working and transfer properly the signal to the computer.

I will check later today if IAC is working well, how the engine should react when I disconect it ?

Make sure your throttle cable has slack, tension will leave it open and not sit on the idle screw
