A week ago my Legacy started smelling really bad. The left side of the engine is producing this burning rubber/oil smell. I have plenty of oil. Thankfully the car is getting better gas mileage.

Did you check under the timing belt cover to see if any oil was leaking there?

No i havent but wouldnt oil still leak out from underneath the car? Because there isnt any there.

 

Could it be a cylinder head gasket. I know I have at least one that is cracked.

Check for a torn CV Boot
Yep that would be my guess, axle grease will really stink it up when it hit the exhaust.
