July 21, 201411 yr Hi guys I recently moved from Vegas to Wyoming I'm told it can get down to -10 in the winter and my baja has never been in that cold of weather before what do I need to do to it to get it ready if anything. I'm being proactive don't want to get cought with my pants down
July 21, 201411 yr Only thing I can think of is to make sure your antifreeze offers protection down to -20 to -25. You can buy a cheap antifreeze tester at any auto parts store. Ez to operate, ez to read the result. You will need to have a battery in good condition. An old weak battery will let you down when temp is below zero.
July 21, 201411 yr make sure you use a weight of oil appropriate for winters there. I guess make sure your tires are OK for that environment too. If possible, consider installing an engine warmer/'block heater' w'ever they are called. Edited July 21, 201411 yr by 1 Lucky Texan
July 21, 201411 yr Author Thanks for the tips how involved is installing a block heater and I run 10w30 full synthetic it's a turbo baja what oil would u recommend thanks
July 21, 201411 yr check your owners manual for recommended viscosities in temps below the freezing point. you may be fine with the 10w30, or it may recommend something else. Here in Wisconsin it can get to -20 F for a week or two at a time, -10s and -teens are common - we change oil viscosity in the spring and fall, thicker for summer heat, thinner for winter cold.
