Tough Decision to turbo or not to turbo?

Featured Replies

Decided to buy a brat, from an old subaru shop that has a few sitting around. of the two i like there's a stick with 85000 miles on it, or a turbo with 120000...only thing is i've been sourcing parts and i'm pretty sure if the transmission on it goes i'm stuck swapping the original out anyways. what do you guys think? both are priced mid 2k. body's arent too rusty. would rather have the extra horses of the turbo, but would like to be able to get more than 20000 miles worth of use out of it before a major conversion/repair. open to thoughts and suggestions.

Go Turbo for the rarity of it. Keep the original tranny and do 5 spd dual range swap.. better gears.

both, that's funny!

get the one in better overall condition/maintenance?

the non-turbo for reliability. the turbo for fun, project, tinkering if you do'nt mind the extra work

turbo is guaranteed to need more work, maintenance, parts in the long run.

turbo engines can make high miles

my EA82T is at 235,000 miles all stock  :D and no exhaust port cracks!!!

only problem its had is valve cover gaskets leakin, but any EA82 has that problem anywhere over 200k miles

use 5w40 or 0w40 oil in the turbo

what about 10w40 ??

just wonderin, ive noticed it runs a little smoother on the 10w
