93 legacy intermittent cutting out while driving.

Featured Replies

I have a 93 legacy that just started intermittently cutting
out while drive.  Speed doesn’t matter.  Happens when in a turn at high speeds or if
you hit a hard bump.  Car has 202,000
miles on it.  Not sure if the fuel pump
has ever been replaced. Looking for some ideas, before I just start replacing
parts.

Inspect the pinouts for the fuel harness. It comes thru the body under the rear seat thru a grommet, then there is a hatch behind the rear seat under the carpet where it plugs into the tank. 2 connectors in all.

I checked the fuel pump harness and it is ok.  The symptom is more like the ignition being turned off for a few seconds and then turned back on.  Sometimes it happens repeatedly and sometimes it may not happened at all.  Just trying to narrow down possible causes.  Anyone have any ideas on what is the cause.  Thanks

Hi,

The CEL is NOT on, correct? If it is on for a PAST issue (like an O2 sensor), check it again for new codes.

I'd recommend the MAF, but they usually cause the car to stall - not cut out. And the car will die when coming to a stop.

The ignition switch on these is known to fail, but I don't know - other than replacing it - how to test it. Can you make the issue occur on purpose - by driving over a bump?

It sounds like a wire is shorting out,...but I can't help tell you  where to look.

GL,

Td
