October 27, 201411 yr Hey folks, May one of you can help me or rather my brother: Any of you know whether the Forester/Outback tire size 205/70R15 does fit with stock Legacy1 struts on the front wheels regarding the lower spring perch? The car is lifted by relocated spring perches on the rear and strut blocks on the front. That's why I only see possible rubbing at the front. Would appreciate your wisdom here before we order new tires Regards from Germany
October 27, 201411 yr i have done this, and larger, many times., you will have about 3/8 inch clearance
October 27, 201411 yr The 90/91, 89/90 in your neck of the woods, models have lower spring spring perches. If you have those year struts you will have less clearance, but they may still fit.
October 28, 201411 yr Author It's a late 93 model, but it seems to get quite tight. Maybe the struts have been replaced some time ago, who knows... I will post the results here if we go for those tires. Thanks to both of you guys
December 8, 201411 yr Author Only this one my brother sent me. He chose Conti AT tires as it is his daily driver.
January 9, 201511 yr Author Without further modifications I think you will get in trouble using anything bigger than 205/70R15. With the current setup including a 40 mm lift the front wheels clash at some locations inside the wheel wells while deflecting and cornering. BTW: I must admit that changing tire size here in Germany is a different story due to the fact that you have to get an official approval that the new size does not affect the safety of the car. To check tire clearance they usually lift the car, put some spacers under the wheels front left and rear right f.e. and let it down to simulate deflection whilest steering to the limits in both directions. Unfortunately my brother's car failed this test caused by the front tires touching this rectangular frame rail and the rear tires having not enough clearance to somewhere I don't remember (in the eye's of the official...). So all in all even if things work, you sometimes have to be a criminal to do them in this lovely country Edited January 9, 201511 yr by Georg
January 13, 201511 yr I'm more interested in the tire physically clearing the strut.Body panels can be "massaged" to fit.
April 24, 20178 yr Does anyone know if 205/70/15 will fit in 98 Impreza with no lift? Same question, but for 93 Legacy? I'm looking at a complete set of tires and wheels off a later Subaru so I can leave my M&S tires mounted..
