that reminds me i also have a engine light code but have never done this with a subaru before how do i check it is there a light on the ecu that flashes?

Edited by bobburito

Should be a big plastic cover under the steering wheel about over your lower legs when driving. Remove it. Engine error led is visible in a hole in the ecu box, mounted to the bottom of the steering column. Count the long blinks and the fast blinks. That is the 2 digit error code.

All the information you need concerning checking codes is in the ultimate Subaru repair manual you can find at the root of these forums in the repair section.

A car sitting that long I would check the exauhst for restictions/mouse nest.

I had this happen on a brat that I worked on that sat for a couple years. I revved up the engine for a while and poof! Out came a nest.

Possible vaccume leak? Fuel filter? Air filter
