Can the VA diff and T-style diff interchange?

Recommended Posts

How do I post a pic? The VA diff was used on some of the brighton models and unfortunately in my L model. if you google impreza diff you will find a picture of one sitting next to a legacy r-160. They aren't very common. I want to install a VLSD unit from an older legacy SS

I have a 1998 impreza w/ the VA type diff,

like gary, i have never heard it referred to as as a VA diff.

but that is beside the point.

for the most part all diffs from ej-engine cars will swap, if the final drive ratio is the same.

so what engine and trans is in your 98 impreza?

and what is the engine, trans, year of the car the diff came from?

give me this info and i can probably tell you if the ratios match.

The car Ill be installing it into is my 1998 Impreza L wagon, 2.2 w/ 4eat. Checked build code thru dealer and multiple web postings and found it was 4.11. The diff I got the donor diff from was a 1991 legacy ss, from my findings this vlsd unit only came in 3.90, but I spun it a few times and I kept creeping a hair over 4 turns. So I pulled the cover 37/9 stamped on the gear. It's a version 1 vlsd. I purchased new cover gasket, seals and proper axles (91 legacy)
