new head studs yes or no

Doing head gaskets need to know if I should get me studs and what the torque is on the head studs any help would be greatly appreciated thank you

head studs are unnecessary.

for EJ25's:  resurface the heads and if you're interested in extra effort/cost - resurface the block face as well.

 

also you need to use a good MLS head gasket - Six Star or OEM Turbo Ej25 headgaskets for SOHC EJ25's.

Its a ej25d but I've been loading coolent for while now a few ounces at a time I just ran a block test and it was normal so I'm at a loss the heatercorr is dry all around the floor and its got a brand new radiator and coolant lines all the way around fluids all look normal

EJ25D's with OEM installed headgaskets almost always overheat as well - so if you're missing that symptom it's not sounding like headgaskets yet.  unless the headgsakets have been replaced before.

 

i think there's two style tests and one is more definitive than the other.   can probably google it.

She got hot today and had some boil over and the heads where done 15k ago other then that the cooling system is almost all new I'm really just at a loss with this car

Just curious as I am new to Subaru's but do they use studs instead of head bolts?  And if they are studs, has anyone ever used Belvil washers under the nuts?  Belvil washers act like springs to keep a more consistent clamping pressure on the heads as they expand and contract.

aftermarket thermostats sometimes cause issues.  just look at them and they are notably cheaper looking than subarus.  here's a comparison pic:

if the  headgaskets failed again - it's because:

 

1. a cheap head gasket was used

2. the heads weren't resurfaced

3. the engine was catastrophically overheated when the original headgaskets failed

 

When repairing EJ25 head gaskets - you must use a quality gasket and resurface the heads.  studs are not the answer - following those important two steps are - and making sure you're starting with a block that wasn't severely beat and abused.

 

of course check for leaks, fans not coming on, thermostat, and clogged radiator too, but that's all easy stuff.
