White smoke coming from under hood!

Featured Replies

I have been having smoke coming from my 96 Subie Impreza Outback 2.2L auto for a couple months now. It is white with no real smell except maybe a slight burnt smell. It is not particularly thick or cloudy but is definitely white and moderate. It appears as though it is coming from somewhere underneath the part of the engine block where the spark plugs are on the passenger side. I cant tell if it is coming from this metal housing that looks like it runs to the exhaust or from the block itself. I don't really knowall the engine parts so it is hard for me to say. Does anyone know of any "from under the car" diagrams of the EJ22 and does anyone have any idea where this smoke is coming from and how to fix it.

Very likely a leaky power steering reservoir.  Check the level of the fluid.

Leaking anything actually. Wash off the bottom of the engine, top off all the fluids and go for a drive. Then park the car with cardboars under it and see what the stains are.

Washing it off will make it much easier to tell where it is coming from. Also, a picture is worth a thousand words. See if you can get a shot or two of the leak and post it up. What ever is leking, it is probably dripping onto the exhaust, causing your smoke.
