soopsoop
i am working on a ladies 1990 loyale sw with manual tranny. it won't crank over unless you put power to the solinoid then it fires right up i tried the ign switch and everything lights up just won't energize the solonoid from the haynes manual all that is in the circut is a neutral switch and the ign switch and the battery and starter, simple. which fusable link runs the starter? they have the very end one bypassed because the lights stay on otherwise. what i am thinking is that fuseable link runs the starter not the lights. 987687
When you turn the key, does the starter solenoid click? Or if you put a meter on it, is there power going to the solenoid? I have an issue on mine where some wiring is probably old and crappy, so when I turn the key it doesn't provide enough current to put the plunger all the way into the contacts. My solution was to just add a relay, so the ignition energizes a relay that gives battery power to the starter solenoid. Not really the most ideal solution, but I just wanted the silly thing to go and stop again. It's been like that for at least 4 years now... soopsoop
no power to the relay. if i put power to the solinoid terminal it cranks right over and starts right up.
john in KY
The starter circuit, as far as I know, doesn't use a relay. Take 987687's advice and that should solve the problem.
DaveT
I spent a lot of time fighting with this problem a few years ago. Put in a general purpose relay, no problem since.

ivantruckman
I had the same problem , I installed a pushbutton in the dash wired from battery directly to the started solenoid
