No dash lights on 2003 Legacy L

Featured Replies

I just bought a 2003 Legacy L on the 7th and I noticed the gauge cluster lights do not work but the clock and odometer do work and when I turn on the headlights or parking lights the lights in them dim, I have checked the Illumination fuse. The HVAC lighting works, no lighting in any door switches, the fuel low light does not work unless it was not low enough to come on.

Have you checked the rheostat to see if it's set at the "off" level? (You know, the ring on the turn signal handle that dims and brightens the dash lights.)

I have checked that, it is set on high, I can control the brightness of the clock and odometer along with the manual HVAC controls but the gauge cluster remains off.

The illumination control module breaks the car lighting into zones. Why I dont know. Is there an aftermarket radio in the car?

You need a new module, get one or three from a junk yard as they are not cheap new.

Yes there is an aftermarket radio in the car, Did they mess the Illumination control module up when they installed it? I also noticed I don't have a low fuel warning light. Where can I find the ICM in the car?

As these are 100.00 parts new, i would look into that first. Sometimes all a stereo needs is a signal the lights are on and i take that from the glove box light. The glove box light only works when the lights are on.

ICM is on the knee panel drivers side i think next to the drivers knee on that cover. Use your nose i bet you will smell the remains of magic smoke.

Low fuel light are you sure its out?

Many an ICM has been killed buy a foolish stereo install

Well I can rule out the ICM because half of my tach started lighting up, then I tapped on the front of it and the other side lit up about half, must be a loose connection.
