Noticed a wire without a home next to my rear defrost button

Featured Replies

Thanks for reading!

I replaced the light bulbs in my instrument cluster (speedometer) today, and I noticed a wire harness (male end) pretty much right next to my rear defrost button, which is located on the dash just to the right of the ignition. It appears to be the same size and type of harness plug that the rear defrost uses, however, it is a yellow-brownish color, rather than white like the defrost. (I can only assume that was done purposely to be able to tell which was which) There is no button on the dash besides the rear defrost, and I was unable to find a factory service manual anywhere locally. Does anyone happen to have an e copy of the wiring diagram, or even know off the top of their head what this might have once powered, or can power?

If possible, I would like to utilize the plug by adding a switch on the dash, which would control the fog lights I have yet to install.

If you don't have a fog light button, the plug is probably for the fog lights. Just go to the junkyard and pick up a fog light button for your particular kind of car.

What year and model?

Fog light connector is orange/brown colored and has 5 wires.

Cruise connector is in there too. Should be on the right side.

Fog light switch is on the left.

It is a 96 legacy brighton 5 speed wagon. It doesn't have cruise control on the dash, however, the plug/wire in question is on the right hand side of the column. I will take a look at the wires in the morning. Thanks for the replies.

Also, just to make sure there isn't any confusion, the car does not have fog lights. The brighton was the cheapest version. I wanna install them though, and I'm trying to use this wire with a button, if possible.

Probably for cruise then.

If these didn't come with fog lights the wiring wasn't installed. But they did put the cruise wiring in, whether it had cruise or not.

If you have a pick-n-pull type junkyard near you, find one with fog lights and get the whole setup.
