Recently bought a 1985 1.8 gl

Touring wagon sunrasia rims tall roof

225 on clock 350$

One or two problems like the heater busted inside car and fluid all over passenger floor

By passed the heater

Any hows cant get it started rather starts and stops

Had good look and the chike cable is loose

Yes goid old choke cable

Cant find a pic anywhere even in repair manual of where the darned thing goes

Love to see it going again

Any one with any ideas id love to hear from u

Also have a 1993 sportswagon which i am working on

Some idiot at a repair shop used a impact rattle gun when removing spark plugs and stuffed the threads i hope helecoils will work

Anyone had anyluck with helecoils on a aliminium head

 

Love yhe subys cant wait to see seven mile beach a fishing tod or two and a bbq

The 1985 Touring Wagon, has the EA82 engine, or the EA71? ...  ... The Manual choke was used by Subaru on their EA71 engined Touring Wagons; I kindly suggest you to share some photos of your wagons here, so we could help you better.

Yes, that is Horrible! ... ... If the thread stripping was too Rude, I bet you'll need to send the Heads to a Repair Shop, in order to fill the openings with Aluminium and redo the Threads...

Rude isn't quite the right word to use there, I think what Jes means to say is if the damage to the threads is too severe, you'll have to have them repaired at a shop. Just a friendly correction jeszek, your English is very good, "rude" just isn't the right adjective for that. :-)

And back on topic to the original poster, I echo the desire for pictures! A stock manual choke ea82, or is it an aftermarket setup?

I only have seen Stock Manual Choke on EA71 engined, third gen Subaru Leone:

Note the "Manual Choke" Control on the Dashboard: it was a 1.6L (EA71) Gen III Leone DL (Manual Windows)

But it had the Optional Wooden Steering Wheel.

85 model EA82 had the semi-auto choke here. It's the only model that did. My first subie was an 85 sedan with this type of choke.

Because it's so rare, the repair manuals don't cover it.

 

What is meant by "the cable is loose"?

The lever you pull on is attached to the cable by a small grub screw underneath. The cable box itself is held on by the round plastic grommet on the front (hidden behind the lever) unwinding off the surround.

 

How many k's on the 93 model? I know someone in Qld who's got a sportswagon they're stripping. He (well his wife) might be interested in getting rid of the engine block (or complete engine). Got to be better than working on a helicoiled spark plug. I'd also worry about it coming loose again...

Same guy has a really rusty 85 touring wagon with the manual choke he's stripping. so if your cable is stuffed, I can ask him.

Exactely the same on the 3rd gen 86 Leone (GL) Ea82 Wagon I had.

 

 

The choke cable needs to be adjusted / shorted to take up / readjust   slack at carb,

need to take off aircleaner box to do this. make sure choke butterfly fully open with choke off.

 

Also make sure to check readjust fast idle linkages to throttle butterfly. otherwise when you pull choke car won't run.  

It should be be running at about 2000rpm at full choke then return to normal idling speed when choke off/fully pushed in.

Also found the manual choke far superior to the auto choke on later 88 Leone / GL I had also  especially for cold winter starts because of its better adjustibility.

Yes. 

 

I shared those Photos here, because seems like the Manual Choke wasn't an Option for the EA82 in USDM, (maybe on the DL lineup?) but I found them on the LADM (Latin American Domestic Market) Specs' Subarus, as well in AUDM, NZDM, JDM, and certain European markets; However, this Manual Choke is more often seen on the EA71 engined, third gen Leones.
