Can I put 2.2 phase 2 heads from a 99 legacy on a 2001 2.5 block. The 2.5 has a broken timing belt and i have a new set of 2.2 heads sitting in my shop.

I know you can do it on the phase 1 motors with phase 1 heads. I'm just not sure about the phase 2

Phase II EJ22 heads are the same exact heads as Phase II EJ25 heads except for the exhaust ports.   unlike Phase I - they have the same intake manifold bolt pattern, same valve part numbers, etc. 

you just need a single port exhaust header from any 1996-2001 EJ22. 

you don't ''gain'' anything, reliability or power,  by doing it.

but since you have the heads you will save the cost of rebuilding the old heads.

the y-pipe will cost you some thing though.

 

but it will work.

So no pullies to change? And do I use 2.5 head gaskets?
