January 16, 201610 yr I had this diagram I think it is from around 2000, I don't know though if it's still the same position for year or what it would be now if Y was 2000. Edited January 16, 201610 yr by porcupine73
January 16, 201610 yr Author Reason for asking.just wanted to make sure.I have the right cluster.for the year.the title says 99 outback.but 99 will not work
January 16, 201610 yr what is your vin?^ it was up a ways, 453bcb853y7612962 If the chart is right it looks like that would make it a model year 2000?
January 23, 201610 yr 2000 10th Vin digit is always the year. http://support.alldata.com/alldata-repair-online-article/vin-to-year-chart
January 23, 201610 yr OK.but 2000 cluster will not work.cruise works but not speedo? info please: the existing 00 speedo does not work? the replacement 00 speedo does not work? do you have a check engine light? if no ''cel'', then it is a loose or bad connection going to the instrument panel. good luck.
January 23, 201610 yr Author No check engine lite.cruise works.body style is not 2000.cluster is 95-97.trying to figure out speedo problem and buy right parts
January 23, 201610 yr Where on the car did you get the VIN from? There are multiple places where VINs are stamped, and there are small stickers on most of the removeable body panels (hood, trunk, doors). Does the VIN on the dash match the VIN on the sticker under the hood? Match the sticker in the door jamb?
January 24, 201610 yr Author Checked on dash.will check title.and under hood .when I get home.thinking the 99 did not have hood scope
January 24, 201610 yr 99 was the last year for the 1st gen outback(95-99). 2000 was the first year of 2nd gen. (2000-04) Bodys are totally different. Cars101.com for pics, look in the Archive section about halfway down the left on the main page.
January 24, 201610 yr +1 a '00 cluster shouldnt physically fit in a '99. A '99 would have the old school rollover odometer, a '00 would have an lcd Dunno if it makes a difference, a 99 has a phase 2 4eat trans, and may have a different layout electrically than a 95-98 cluster. January 24, 201610 yr Author Got home.checked vin # 4s3bg6853x7612962.shows 99.but cluster is 95-97.roll pin not led .
January 25, 201610 yr vin # 4s3bg6853x7612962.shows 99.but cluster is 95-97. this vin is differENT THAN THE ONE YOU POSTED UP TOP. BUT LET'S ASSUME THIS MOST RECENT VIN IS ACCURATE. YOU HAVE A 99 SUBaru. the 95 - 97 cluster will not work. you need a 99 cluster. a working 99 cluster. of course there is the possibility the 99 L cluster is different than the 99 outback. which car do you have? which cluster do you have?
