What is this? Air filter on vacuum lines?

Featured Replies

Not sure what this is... Or its purpose... Looks like i has a filter inside. Connecter to two vacuum lines? Maybe both are fresh air? Sits just to the rear drivers side of the intake manifold and engine. Off a 1986 GL Hatchback. Probably the same for Brats.

Thanks!

If you look close you can see that the two hoses connect to two different switches (?) on the intake manifold.

Might be a filter, but mostly it is like an air receiver, kind of like a capacitor for vacuum.  Gives a little volume, so it smooths out any pulses in the suction from the intake.

That is the secondary air filter.

It filters air entering the carburetor air bleeds thru the duty solenoids.

Both ports should breathe freely.

spoob! Learn something new every day! My dd Brat doesn't have that! Doh!

If your getting a weber delete all the emissions crap off. Only stuff i leave on mine is the egr and the cat so it passes deq but since your in washington you can delete those too.

You should be able to disable the EGR between inspections by just taking off the vacuum line from it and capping the port on the egr and throwing a bolt with RTV and a hose clamp on the vac line.

The rigs i have done it to have ran very well and have passed deq with a little tuning(they get in the mid 20's for mpg). My hatch has 2.2 in it now so i doubled my hp and put the weber on my dads hatch. My dads has 241 thousand miles on it and passed deq once the cat got heated up. I was kind of surprised since it has worn valve seals that makes it roll coal when you start it up cold.
