Ea81 brat HELP OIL EVERY WHERE

Featured Replies

Hey guys my wife uses our '84 ea81 brat as a dd to she was coming home oil pressure dropped from 50psi where it normally sits to under 25psi she pulled over popped the hood and there was oil every where so she got it towed home i got to looking and theres oil underneath from tip to tail, and theres a tiny bit of coolant coming off the front of the motor, the oil looks to be coming from either the front main seal or oil pump water pump area same place the coolant is dripping, but theres so much oil i can't see where its coming from, theres even oil on all 4 wheels ajd brakes literally every where any input would be nice as this is her dd.

Thanks guys.

Oil isn't coming out of the water pump, that's for certain. Fortunately there aren't many places the ea81 can really leak oil from. That said, there's only one way you're going to find the leak. Get some cans of gunk or other engine cleaner and give it a really good cleaning. When there's no oil left on the engine, top it up and start it. With an oil leak that big it should be really obvious where it's pissing out.

Also congrats on your wife knowing what an oil pressure gauge is... had this happened to my car I think she'd have driven it past the point of "makes funny noises", deep into "parts falling onto ground"...

Last time I had one leak that bad it was from the front seal. The shaft on the dampener had cracked and torn up the seal. It might be the oil pump seal also but that would be unusual.

I figure the oil is coming from the front main seal or oil pump seal but what has me puzzled is where the coolant is coming from theres only a small ammount but i don't know where best guess would be the water pump or maybe headgasket, also it got low enough on oil that one of the rod bearings is knocking so im going to do the whole bottom end and take off the heads to see if thats the coolant leak and do the valve adjustment at the same time, I'd like to just have the whole motor rebuilt but the only engine shop we got told me to get lost no subarus (also i can't really afford it right now)

So these are about the only rod bearings im finding, will these be correct? Because it says oversize so im a little confused.post-62613-0-97440500-1468578394_thumb.png

Oversized bearings are for a damaged crank... If the rod journals get chewed up and need to be machined down to achieve a nice shiny finish, oversized bearings are required.

Until you take the engine apart you don't know the extent of damage and thus can't know which size bearings you're going to need.
