Transmission controller 4EAT

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if an automatic transmission controller from a 1995 Impreza 4EAT AWD will work on a 1995 Legacy 4EAT AWD?  I know the part #s are different. Are these things pretty specific to transmission #s, or are they essentially the same?

Thanks!  Todd

The biggest difference between an impreza in 95, and a legacy in 95 was the impreza was OBD1, and the legacy was OBD2.

A while ago someone had posted a write-up for how to trigger sport mode shifting in 95 Legacy TCUs. Sport mode was a left-over from the 90-94 era legacy, that was done away with in 95. But the pin to activate it was still in the TCU, and was still the same pin as far as I remember.

I would bet they're the same, as long as the connector is the same shape.

You could try finding FSMs for both cars and check the pinouts for the TCU to make sure they're the same.

No offense to Fairtax, but I 'think' the EJ22+4EAT (not the EJ18+ 4EAT) in the '95 Impreza was OBD2...per this Post and this POST, too. Same as the '95 Legacy.

It 'might' depend on the build date, but if it has the 2nd Gen  (NOT Phase 2) TPS on the throttle body and if it has EGR on the 2.2, I'd also guess it's OBD2.

A quick look on ebait and the TCU/TCM's for both Impreza and Legacy from a '95  appear to have the same pin/connectors, but the mounting bracket is different.
