Will the 2000-2004 Outback  FRONT struts work on the '96-'99 Legacy Outback, too?

I know the rears will not due to the change to  multi-link w/shocks and springs...from Mac struts.

 

HIt me w/the Search stick if you find it...two days of trolling the Subie sites hasn't yielded an answer.
