Difference Between XT6 And GL DR Clutch

Featured Replies

Looking to buy a new clutch and just wondering what the difference is for the xt6 clutch. I've ej swapped my car so looking for a bit better clutch.

I was looking at this one on Rock Auto which has 24 Splines vs the normal 21 for the dual range. Is this the only difference for the XT6 Clutch? Mostly asking as this one isn't listed under XT6 but the one that is has 24 splines and thats the only difference I can tell.

Also any preference for Brute Power vs Excedy vs Beck Arnley?

If you want more holding power, you have to have your EA82 flywheel stepped to the ER27 specs, use the XT6 pressure plate and an EA82 disc.

Whats different about the step?

Is the 24 spline vs 21 spline better?

I'd have to look it up to be sure, but I believe the ER27 has a smaller step. The ER27 pressure plate has more clamping force. The discs are the same except for the spline count. That spline count is only for the ER27 with the 5spd AWD trans.

They don't make the xt6 stuff anymore just use the exedy 15008 kit. Otherwise you have to source new old stock to get the pressure plate which is pretty hard to do at this point. The xt6 pressure plates in the kits they make now are the same as a ea82.

They have a 24 spline count for the go listed on rock auto. I guess I'm sol. That excedy is the one I listed but not sure what that spline count is. Is it of the input shaft?

I definitely need the 24 then?

Also there is a luk with the same part number thats 60 bucks less.

Lots of people seem to recommend them might as well give it a try!

Yes, you need the 24 spline, the 21 spline is a 2wd clutch.

That's good info Turbosubarubrat. I did not know they weren't producing them. I did read here somewhere that someone had shortened the step on their EA82 flywheel like a 1/16th of an inch to gain more clamping force with the EA82 clutch st up.

Going to get the LUK one, have read quite a few good reviews and its quite a bit cheaper!

Thanks for all the info.

Guess I'll be sticking with regular strength.

Even if you get an XT6 pressure plate from your local Subaru parts department, when you open the box you find a VALEO pressure plate with the same part number as the EA82. And no, they dont take returns. Learned that one the hard way...

And according to my local dealer, there's no more XT6 pressure plates left.

Luckily I have a few spare XT6 fywheels, discs and pressure plates in my stash :-)
