November 12, 20169 yr Took my subie in for smog check and didn't pass bc it has two codes and the CEL isn't illuminating. I just got the car as a gift. PO didn't fix the problem. Not sure what he did. I have replaced all the bulbs and the battery is the only one illuminating. If you guys can help me out I would really appreciate it. Thank you
November 12, 20169 yr When you first turn the key to on position without starting, do the cel and break, and other lights on the dash come on for a moment
November 12, 20169 yr Author The brake light doesn't turn on when e-brake is on. The only light that is on with key on engine off is the battery light.

Thank you You pulled the dash console (speedo/Tach) and replaced those bulbs, correct? And all the plugs on the back are plugged in? If so, I don't know why they wouldn't work, but you may want to find another console to @ least test it. Any '95-'98 Legacy shouls work, but you may want to stick w/the '96-'98 OB or GT models for best compatibility w/the 2.5 engine and such.
November 14, 20169 yr battery light is in a special circuit I think so, I'd be looking for a bad ground or some fuse(s) bad. I wouldn't rule-out something odd with the illumination module. Edited November 14, 20169 yr by 1 Lucky Texan
