Group N motor/trans mounts for an XT6?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I am looking to replace my engine mounts while the engine is removed for re-sealing. Stock XT6 mounts are long NLA, but I have seen some references to using Group N mounts.

Can anyone confirm for me which ones work and if they are plug-and-play? I had a Group N transmission mount in my '03 Legacy and loved it.

If I can use the Group N trans and motor mounts in my XT6, a link to specific part numbers / models to use would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff

no one ever does it, talks about it, and a search shows nothing.  maybe someone knows but wouldn't be surprising to get nothing on this question.

russ mentioned cusco mounts on his XT6 so he's considered it and probably knows something.

Russ has mentioned doing many things on his xt6. The engine mounts could probably be modified to work pretty easily. But the transmission mount will not be a simple matter. The ej trans mount won't bolt to the er trans.

Yeah - I'm sorry to be annoying, just not used to finding silence on what is a fairly typical question with the other cars I play with.

I've pinged Russ but not heard back. Would love to know if his mounts need major modification or if they'd be considered plug and play with possibly some slight alterations.

no apology needed.  it's not common to XT6's.  if you're already pulling the engine, if it's already out anyway, maybe you could take it with you to a parts store and compare it side by side with an EJ mount.

or someone could just ship you an EJ mount and compare?

The engine is being re-sealed by a shop that specializes in high horsepower Subaru engine builds (so there are a lot of EJ motors lying around); I've asked them to see if anything looks like a good match that they might have sitting on the workbench.

There's part of me that also feels like the 4-cylinder mounts would at least be better than close to 30 year old XT6 mounts, but I'm not sure how much the vibration factor would change.

I spoke with the shop doing the re-seal and North Coast Subaru (dealer) in New York. Both places compared existing mounts (stock and Group N) and both agreed that nothing is close to the XT6 mount. The consensus is mine are in good enough shape to soldier on, and if no other solution develops by the time they fail, to use the four-cylinder mounts.

Maybe I'll get lucky in the meantime and find an NLA set...
