EA82 cylinder vs deck

Featured Replies

Anyone have some shortblocks laying around? I took apart my turbo motor and noticed some seperation between cylinder wall and deck.

So I took apart another one and it had the same seperation, now in wondering if this is normal crap casting or if I'm pushing the motor too hard.

Let's see if I can remember how to post images.

Every set of heads I have pulled for the ea82T, I went to the turbo side and pulled the head, they were cracked between the valves. I have set them to a machine and had them welded and reground, and it happened a second time some time later too. In my opinion that engine, ea82T is just garbage. The N.A. ea82 is fine. That is the reason why Subaru made the 2.2T so awesome because the ea82T just didn't cut it.

I hunted for heads when my heads cracked and literally every engine I found and pulled the head off the turbo side showed me it was time to change to another motor period.

Well thanks for that reply, although that has nothing to do with the block.

........Which I am actually wondering about

Yea me either. I'm still gunna slap it together and throw 15lbs at it.

Just trying to gauge if this is common or not.

As far as opinions of the ea82. I'm good, trust me I know ohmawgawd EJ, yada yada. But that's not what this car is for.

Sitting 10ft from the car is an EZ30, ej22, ej255 etc.

I choose to keep the EA because when it works consistently, it'll be glorious.

Not to mention I rebuild busted EJs all day at work, the hell would I want that on a personal car too?

It looks like it took a lot of heat my thinking is the exspantion and contraction caused the gap the sleaves seal against the head iirc I'm sure on its fine though as long as the cylinders are still mostly round I dought you would have a problem

Blow by might be a issue though with that pitting and 15lbs of boost just watch for oil in the intake

Yea the pitting I'm not so stoked about, but it'll be fine for much the car will be driven
