February 12, 20179 yr Have a 97 legacy with single piston calipers would the to upgrade to dual piston Calipers. Has any one done this? What model would I get Calipers and brackets from, is it A bolt on upgrade?
February 12, 20179 yr All EJ brakes are bolt-on upgrades (except the WRX rear 2 pots which need kartboy adaptors or the correct backing plates, and SVX/Tribeca oddballs). Donor vehicles (stolen from nasioc thread) : 91-94 Legacy turbo, 96-01 Legacy GT, 96-01 Outback, 00-04 Legacy non-GT, 98+ Impreza RS/TS/2.5i, 98+ Forester. it's not much of an upgrade in terms of rotor size, but if you are running smaller than 16" wheels they will clear fine. You'll need the calipers (obviously), backing plates, and rotors.
February 12, 20179 yr Need brackets, calipers, and rotors. And pads and clips! You don't need backing plates. You'll want to make sure they fit under whatever wheels you're running. Larger front calipers won't fit under some 14" and 15" wheels depending which wheels and calipers. I have a set or two available but they're easily found too Edited February 12, 20179 yr by grossgary
February 12, 20179 yr It's a bolt on but you need 15" wheels to clear outback brakes. You can even go to 03+ outback brakes but you need 16" wheels. Or 05+ Legacy GT brakes which require 17's. GD Edited February 12, 20179 yr by GeneralDisorder
February 14, 20179 yr Probably the easiest dual piston calipers to find will be from cars that came with a 2.5L engine from your car's generation such as the Outback, LSi, GT etc. If you are not opposed to and have room, sometimes it is beneficial to buy a parts car, and pull parts as you need them. That way you can be sure you have everything you need when "bolting on" an upgrade. Outbacks with bad engines can be had cheap, and you get the necessary 15" wheels if you don't already have them.
