88 gl10 front slip yoke for rear drive shaft

Featured Replies

I got an 88 gl10 1.8 turbo awd with the 5 speed tranny. He gave me the car because he blew up the slip yoke coming out of the rear of the trans. DORMAN sells a whole rear driveline for about 400 bucks, but they dont seel just the yoke. I pulled the yoke and measured it as best i could. It seems like a 1203-24 yoke should work, based on some charts i found. It comes up as a nissan part. Has anybody else done this? I cant seem to find it in the forums. Any help is greatly appreciated

Any driveline shop should be able to fix it. Nissan probably is close - I know their 4 bolt flanges are the same and the old Datsun 510 used the same Hitachi R160 rear diff so you probably have a very good chance that what you found is correct. The u-joints are staked in and technically aren't serviceable but a good driveline shop could fix it.

Would be a lot cheaper to just get a whole driveline from the junk yard.

Beware that if the OD of the slip yoke is trashed then the inside of the transmission tailshaft housing will be similarly damaged and you would need that as well.... at the least. Usually this means a new transmission as that is some kindof indication of a lubrication problem.

Okay GD junk yard drivelines dont seem readily avaliable around here. And there doesnt seem to be any damage to the transmission. The front ujoint is what actually failed,it just took out the yoke with it. Do you think i would be better off replacing the whole driveshaft with a new one?

Check one of the nation wide used parts places?
