99 outback key stuck

Featured Replies

On my 99 outback the key sometimes won't come out of the ignition. I had a new key made by the dealer with the vin and it still did it. I then replaced the ignition itself (as in the key and tumbler part.) It still does it sometimes.

I am stumped, any thoughts?

Thanks

do you park with the wheels turned at an angle, and possibly on a slope?

all cars can sometimes need some 'counter pressure' applied to the steering wheel to take some friction off the locking mechanism.

Parked on flat ground, same spot every day. No pressure on anything.

Shake and turn the steering wheel and shifter, doesn't help.

Park/neutral switch could case intermittent issues like that.

Assuming its an auto.

Deep creep instead. I like it better

does the key turn all the way back to the 'off' position?

Could be the interlock with the auto trans.  Not recognizing that car is in "P" or not disengaging if it is recognizing.

You can pull covers off the column and remove the little interlock solenoid.  2 screws......never have to worry about it again.

The key does turn all the way back to the off position. I will tryt to figure out the interlock solenoid.

Thanks

Google, how do you get the bottom screw out? So I need to remove the steering wheel and everything.
