Are ytou talking about the guide over the crank on a 5 speed suby

He might be referring to the thin plastic rectangle that comes with some timing belts.  I have one, never did use it.  I'm guessing it is to space the metal guide cover used on 5 speed engines. 

It is, and if I remember right it's about 1/8" thick
