Y pipe Oxygen sensor location question?

Featured Replies

Sorry if seems like a stupid question!!! It's another Y pipe question. So one of my goals is to match the lenght of the 2 pipes.I plan to run the pipes parallel and make them join in the collector just behind the transmition cross member.I plan on putting the oxeygen sensor in the collector. This will move the sensor about 2 feet further away from the motor. I was wondering if that might cause some unforseen problems.

I have been told that matching pipe lenghts can improve performance on normally asperated ( non-turbo ) motors.

The wire for the sensor wont be long enough. Have to make it longer. I would suggest running a whole new line from the plug in connecter under the engine bay to the sensor itself. Leaving the connector to ECU wire in tact and unmodified.

The sensor sends data to the ECU on a very narow margin (0-1volt). Splcing and using connectors could effect that signal. If you are good at soldering then you might get away with extending it that way sind a solderd connection shouldnt loose signal. Personaly I'd just run a new wire from plug to sensor and solder the connection at each end there. Then you would just have 2 solderd points, one at the plug and one at the sensor itself.

What about the temp of the exhaust gases? Won't that effect it any?

Maybe I should use a cross over pipe behind the oil pan for the sensor to be located. I think that would solve both problems( temp. & rewireing ).
