February 13, 20188 yr Hey, I’m trying to replace the knock sensor in a 98 Legacy Outback I just bought, but I ran into a weird problem. I was able to unscrew the sensor, but when I followed the wire to unplug it, I couldn’t find the end. It went on for way longer than it should and then got bundled in with other wires on the left side of the engine. Does anyone know where the actual plug should be? Because the wire of my new knock sensor is only about 1-2 inches.
February 13, 20188 yr Sounds like someone cut out the connector. I bet if you undo the loom and/or tape about 2 inches up, you'll see either butt connectors or a solder joint. Edited February 13, 20188 yr by golucky66

February 13, 20188 yr Interesting. Well, the only way to know for sure it to open up the harness and inspect what's going on. You're going to need to open the harness up anyways to install the new knock sensor wires (seeing as there's no connector) Let us know what you find
