“Boat”: an enormous ocean going vessel. Also a small flat bottom aluminum boat.

 

A small lightweight boat would easily work on top of a Subaru if properly mounted.

'Boat': moves (a little or a lot) when you step aboard.

'Ship': doesn't move when you step aboard.

Flip it upside down and point the bow towards the front. If you build rails for it to sit on make sure they're as far apart (front-back) as possible and solidly attached. Strap it down with big ratchet straps.
