2009 Subaru Outback

Featured Replies

Hi, Im new....

2009 Subaru Outback with 3.0L I bet this question has been asked 10
million times, Does the 3.0L Boxer suffer the same HG issue as 2.5L in
this Gen? Also any other issue's that I should know? This Outback is
fully load!

Thanks

best answer is, doesn't 'seem' to be as common in older cars. but 2009 ? even the 2.5 is not so bad I think as older generations.

keep in mind, there are fewer of them in the population so data is tricky to discern. They certainly CAN have HG issues.

At about 200k they weep oil but not just from the HG's - also from inner and outer timing chain covers, etc. So the answer is essentially yes - but worse. Not worth fixing though as the cost is extremely high. Most people just live with it till end of life at 300k or so. They are a much more disposable platform than the 4 cylinder since they generally become economically non-feasible due to labor costs to repair them.
