EA81 Brat distributor has play in shaft - resistant while driving

Featured Replies

Hey Guys,

I've been recommended to replace my ea81 distributor in my 1988 brumby to an electronic distributor (if I can find one)
Symptoms: resistance while driving - jolting movement - intermittent miss.

Has anybody else had this issue? Im looking for the exact part to replace but unsure where to find and what exactly to be looking for.
can this play in the shaft cause the timing to be off?

Thanks in advance.

Drew

shaft play in such a precision mechanical unit causes all sorts of crap.

So you have trouble believing the advice?

If it has been found it is likely a first step.

If in Oz I think Michael of Advanced Diaphragm Options in Queensland can overhaul your distributor or know someone who can. Google distributor overhaul

This beast has 30 years on it and likely needs some basic preventative maintenance and replacement of plugs, leads, cap, rotor etc. Being 88 it is not points dizzy or should not be so check it is electronic and see the shaft play yourself

If you are calling it a Brumby , must be in Oz? Postcode?

I believe I have a spare but need to find it.  I had my original distributor rebuilt.  Wasn't that expensive and only took around a week.  That May be a cheaper option than me selling you a distributor and shipping it to you.  Jonas
