New ABS pump and brake bleeding

Featured Replies

Just installed a new ABS pump on my impreza 2013

I will take this opportunity the flush my brake fluid.

Now can I simply bleed the brake the old fashion way and will that fill and bleed the new pump?

Thanks

Yes. Bleed as normal. The FSM details a process for bleeding for ABS systems but it’s not necessary.

It can take forever to bleed a system that’s been open that far. I’ve gone through 2 or 3 32 ounce bottles on systems requiring complete flushing rather than one or two corners.

Can you elaborate on how to go about the easies way!

I've been  using the Motive Products bleeder for years.  It works great.  Fill the bleeder with fluid.  Hook it to your master cylinder and pump it up to about 8 psi.  Hook a catch bottle to the bleeder and open the bleeder.  Keep the bottle high.  Watch for clean bubble free fluid coming out of the caliper.  Close the bleeder.  Move on to the next wheel.

Do the wheel closest to the ABS pump first, then work your way around the vehicle.
