Unable to shift after replacing reverse light switch

Featured Replies

Yesterday morning, I installed a replacement reverse light switch from Napa. The car is a 1991 Subaru Loyale, with a 5 speed dual range swapped in.  I drove about 15 miles, got to the store to get some supplies and all the trans would only shift into 5th gear! No 1-4 and reverse. Backed the switch out about 5 turns and my shifting returned. I do not see anything mechanically wrong with the switch, or different from the OEM one I removed from the transmission. Has anyone else run into this issue?

Missing the crush washer.

Definitely sounds like the crush washer, so it will go further in the case than it should.

Turns out the switch was actually the wrong one, just a little too long. Got another one from Napa and fixed the problem.
