July 8, 200421 yr I removed the four small nuts but the fan clutch still seams like it is on there pretty tight. Do I need a puller to remove it. Thanks
July 8, 200421 yr wiggle it from side to side, it fits onto a shaft that prodrudes theru the pulley. use a long bar and a hammer to tap on the shaft and bust it free. (put a cardboard between the radiator if its not out)
July 10, 200421 yr Author I may have screwed up, what do you think? I removed the fan clutch and now the water pump is leaking. Did I do this? I removed the fan clutch by tapping on the shaft, back and forth with a wood block. I installed small 6mm bolts to hold the pully on. checked everything and now I have water dripping from behind one of the timing belt covers right under the waterpump. any ideas
July 10, 200421 yr You may have loosened the pipe to the WP. All it has to seal it is a O-ring. Its held on by a bracket on the head I believe, so remove the bolt and hose clamp at radiator. Then pull the pipe out and use a small amount of sealer and see if the parts store can get you another O-ring. If this doesnt do the trick, you need to remove the T-belt cover and see if the water is coming from the weep hole on the WP. If so, it means you need a new WP.
July 10, 200421 yr Ya might as well install a new WP while you are in there. Saves you trouble down the road..
July 11, 200421 yr Author Thanks, do I need to pull the timing belts to remove the water pump? If so I mite as well get the belts on order. My local auto parts dosen't stock much subaru stuff here in the land of BUICK.
