Roll bar for hatch

Featured Replies

hey im wanting to install a roll bar in my hatch. but one that i can have like a harness bar on it. do you think i should just fabricate my own or go buy one for a brat and just cut it a little bit. and for my 3 point harness how should i install the shoulder ones....? verticle ... horizontal... top or bottom of bar??

I'm thinking full fabrication on that one. What exactly do you meen for the harness mounting? (Stock belts?)

This reminds me of an idea I had when I had more time for cool ideas, has anyone thought of morphing a BRAT fun roof onto a hatch and then keeping the back half open like an Amigo, plus adding a roll bar? I always thought this would be a cool looking hatch. Lifted of course:)

no for the harness mounting i have some 3 points that i want to put in but theirs no mount for the shoulder y peice and i was wondering if i should make a mount and put it on floor or put it on the roll bar..?

If your bar doesn't need to comply with SCCA specs, and it's primarily for mounting your harness, check out the "show bars" sold for VW bugs. A couple years ago I looked at 4 and 6 point bars at the Bow Wow store in Lynnwood. They're damn cheap (like $150) and according to my measurements the 4 point would fit the Hatchback like it was made for it. The tubing is thinner than SCCA requires but with some crossbracing and gussets should be strong enough to survive low speed roll overs etc.

subafreak, you should checkout "unhatched" if you havent seen it before.

i want to do the same thing to my hatch, i was thinkin id make an entire rollbar, with tubes that go back to the rear just below the hatch, and then tie it into the rear strut towers, for support.

Hey Deathhatch, after thinking it over, I've got a roll bar for that I was gonna put into my Hatch that I'd sell ya' for cheap. Give me a call if you're interested in checking it out. I'm in north Seattle. 206-890-1522

Brandon, here's a pic of mounting a 5 or 6 point harness. The shoulder straps are critical. If they are too low, and you have a major front impact, you'll compress your spine and well, thats not good. Don't turn a safety sevice into a weapon. good luck
