  1. damn i miss my subie it would be 100% too if it wasnt taken by tow company
  2. actually the shackles are 3/8 i believe if not 1/2 so ya there pretty heavy duty.
  3. yes i know i will be treated like a human being..lol and i there are not stress cards in basic thats just a rumor but basic in itself is going to be a cake walk for me well my dad raised me and hes a former marine. and its only 6 weeks long so ill be just fine. now what if i just keept the shackles that long and braced them do you think it would be stable enough or would that only be a good temp job...
  4. i leave for the airforce feb 6.
  5. ya i was thinking about all of the above and the only reason its done the way it is now is because lack of money at the time and knowledge. for right now im just trying to get the thing moving and get as much stuff to it done as possiable before i leave for basic. but thanks for all the suggestions and i am open to any thing if you guys come up with some thing.
  6. now if it was me i would cover them. whos to say that you werent using them on the road if they werent covered. im sure that cop would be more than happy to write you a ticket. i never drove with them uncovered so i dont know i would just cover them up and be safer than sorry.
  7. Update: just got the motor to roar again. put in the dizzy and runs like a champ. to answer of the of the questions. the reason i have that long of shackles is because the guy who fabed it (friend) didnt know what else to do. they are comming off of the subaru unibody. they are 12" long shackles with 4" lift toyota springs. i am running 35" xterains and i was planning of dropping some hangers for the front and rear leafs so there not so long i am not quite sure what you mean by reversin them. i am running stock 85 yota axles i plan on locking both front and rear. i have a nissan tcase and have the d/r 5spd in front of that. i also plan on runnin at least 5.13 in the axles. lol and the steering yes the steering well rack now i have a 85 box but its a push and pull. i want to convert to a side to side because steering right now is very iffy. but thats all in the future.
  8. ya sorry for the bad picture quality is was pretty dark out. and ya rob it sure has grown quite a bit.
  9. that sounds like a good idea. now only if i could find a stock hatch...lol
  10. UPDATE: finally i have done quite a bit of work this weekend. i dropped the new motor in. i have put the tcase in place and also built a custom driveline. hooked up my brakes well the fronts that is next week geting braided lines. here are some pics for your viewing pleasure. this picture is of the custom driveline http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e40/jessicas_man/subie/Driveshaft.jpg this is a picture of us being bored. http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e40/jessicas_man/subie/subaruflex.jpg
  11. lol it should be done about the first week of january. then im takin it out everyday. UPDATE: yesterday i picked up my motor. doing the swap sometime this week. will post pics
  12. well i have finally decided that it has been too long since i have drove my subie. and well in about 2-3 weeks its going in the shop and some one else is going to help me finish this long awaited project and should come out a week or two later finally finished. all i have to do left is tcase mounting drivelines and brakelines oh and swap in new motor. will try to keep you guys updated.
  13. well i have been building on mine for 2 years now ya its been quite a project. and well to say the least unless you have A LOT of time and ALL the tools ie plasma cutter and welder its just a waste of time. i really loved my subie the way it was with just a 4in lift. i had a lot of fun and the looks were great.. but then again i sitll havent takin her off road with the new setup. oh and update on the project. final got teh steering done. but all i have to get now is drivelines... its geting closer and closer...
  14. i have an ea81 and was wondering if it would be at all possiable to slap on an ea82 power steering pump..? or does the ea81 only work with the ea81 powersteering pump..?
  15. Ya thats just how i feel. i hate seeing that frame underneith.. thats why im building mine of the unibody looks bad rump roast
  16. yes this is true but now i am not puting any money into my honda unless need be..(daily driver) and my hatch will soon be on the road and better yet the mud.
  17. ya i was wheeling when i first got my hatch and me being unexperienced i wasnt watching the trails too well. and wheeling at night didnt help the situation. ne ways im going down a trail and i got in a big rut. that wasnt the problem though the problem was that while i was in the rut my opposite tire ran over a tree root. and then she went over. frineds help me flip it back over and finished the night. made a cool dent in my door... well more like a crease.. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=8858&size=big&sort=1&cat=500
  18. personally i would say the hatch back. for one it looks cooler and two it has the shorter wheel base. plus i have the hatch and it has never let me down except for the whole straight axle stuff. but that will be done and over with.
  19. subarus needing tow points.... why would a subie need tow points ... wait to tow other people out ah i get it nice. well i wouldnt use the tow points ne ways just use bumper. itll hold
  20. ya i know what ya mean man. i have had a good 1-2 in of mud/goop in my car after this really deep pit. i plan on geeting it rhino lined and i have mats already for it. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=6593&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 ya heres a picture of it
  21. addition: all the shackles will be braced as well as frame connectors, and a cage most likely, its not done yet, the steering is the biggest hang up. The steering shaft just isnt in the right spot for a box, its gonna take some custom stuff that im workin on getting taken care of.
  22. ya that swamper is um ya.... need a bigger spare... ne ways today was nice so i decided to take some pics of how we got the shackles mounted on the unibody frame... and there you have it. from beginning to end. front shackle mounts and rear shackle mounts.
  23. well my buddy built this for me. and after this one im sure he doesnt want to do another one. and it also took us 9 months to get it done so far. srry
  24. srry raven i will get some pics when its sunny out. and i dont plan on drivin it on the street. its going only in the mud and rocks s
  25. I eat hondas for breakfast lunch and dinner - subaru. and i plan to also help turn those tires on gears. i have 4.11s in the axles and i can just use my hi 4 wheel drive on teh dual range. im hoping that will at least move me. it should. but then again i dont plan on going on the free way this is strickly off road.
