strut question ?

Featured Replies

will front struts from a xt work and fit on a front 88 gl-10 a/t turbo wagon ? my air struts on my turbo wagon are a pain and i am going to replace them

the xt is a manual single range and the turbo wagon is a full time 4wd , will they interchange ?

Caleb-

While we're on a strut subject, can you tell me what the general symptons are for struts going bad? So far as I know, mine are original (see vehicle description below). I don't have clunking. The only thing I seem to have is a steering wheel shudder at speeds above 70 mph. Struts? Thanks.

Steering wheel shudder is more often caused by alignment or tore balance problems. Axles will also cause it.

Last strut I had crap out on a subaru caused the passenger side front wheel to hop when going through sweeping left hand turns.. it was pretty cool.. It completely destroyed the upper strut mount and bearings in the course of about 2 days.

immediately after our 3AT TO 4WD 5SPD conversion on the sedan, we took it out for 4 days of baja'n, blew out a strut cap. we replaced that, to break it again. after the second time, we noticed oil on the shaft of the strut, so we replaced the strut and problem was solved

to check the struts, thry bouncing up and down on the bumper. the car should bounce up, then down, then settle. if it moves any more cycles suspect a worn strut. also of the front bobs around after going over dips and bumps

your car will also make a lot more noise going over bumps as the rest of the car absorbs the shock when the shock absorbers don't.

Thank you Caleb, MilesFox and Baccaruda. I'll do the bumper bounce and get to work on the alignment/balancing issue.
