Problem with lights

Featured Replies

On my "new" '88 DL 4WD, rear lights all work as they should, and so do all 4 headlights. However the hazard, parking & turn signals on the front do not work at all.

Fuses are all good, and when I flip the rocker switch in top of the steering column, the tail lights go on, but not the front parking lights.

Anybody have an idea what's wrong?

have you looked at the bulbs yet they are always a good thing to check

No, didn't look at bulbs. Figured they all wouldn't go out at once, and thought there might be connectors apart somewhere, but I will check bulbs at daybreak.

Thanks,

Ray Mac

it is common for circuit sharing bulbs to blow at the same time and another thing that I thought you might look at are the connectors that link them together... are they secure (no rust or damage) and are they tight. Maybe try moving the connectors around a bit with them turned on and see if they light up.

Thanks.

The other thing is--unless Subs are different from other vehicles I've owned--the rear turn and hazard lights flash at what appears to be a normal speed, and I would have expected them to flash more slowly with only half the amps going through the flasher.

I guess I'll have to lay low for a while; I got you going on this for nothing.

For once I decided to trouble-shoot in daylight. In the dark I would have seen that my turn signals in front WERE working.

When I checked to see if they were working, I was looking at the lens next to the headlights to flash. Instead of looking only at those from the side of the wagon, DUH-- I should have stepped in front a few feet and stooped over, and I would have seen the turn signals flashing away, buried under the front bumper. So it's only the front parking lights that don't work.

Sorry, next time I'll do my homework first before getting on here and taking up your valuable time.

Sorry,

Ray Mac

No prob-lem-oh Ray. We've all been down that road at times.

I had to dig out my manual to check this. The park switch is supplied power through fuse #4. Since you say the rear lights work ok that means power is good. There is a connector (F65) that ties the connection to the front lights. It is located under the far left side of the dash. It is a 21 pin, 3 row connector with the wires located on the outside edge of one side in the middle row. The feed side uses a red/black wire and the other side of the connector uses a red/green wire. There are a lot of connectors up there so it may be difficult to find these wires. The red/green wire runs clear to the lights. You may be able to find the problem up front by back tracking the R/G wire. Possibly were it splits off to both of the front lights.

I would recommend you use a test light to check for power while checking this problem out.
